WHO ARE WE?

We are Jasmine Dare and Brendon Kerss. Also known as 'Fairy Jasmine and Fairy Jack'. Our mission is to bring an upbeat, entertaining, hilarious and inspiring interactive musical kids show to the children of Melbourne as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival this September.

WHAT IS THE FAIRY WONDERLAND SHOW?

The Fairy Wonderland is an interactive comedy show about all about fairies, and what it takes to become a real fairy living in Fairyland. It features all new and original music written by Jasmine Dare (Fairy Jasmine)

The kids will be taken on a magical journey through the forests of Fairyland as they help Fairy Jasmine, a quirky, bubbly, overly confident yet encouraging little fairy teach Fairyland's newest and goofiest Fairy 'Fairy Jack' how to have confidence in himself, and help him to finish his fairy training in order to become a real fairy.

WHAT IS OUR MESSAGE?

The Fairy Wonderland show stands for self-expression and diversity. Not only will our show have kids laughing, dancing and singing their hearts out. It will inspire them with a message of the importance of loving and accepting themselves and as well as others. 'Anyone can be a Fairy' is our motto. A Fairy can be male or female, old or young and come in all shapes and sizes. Every fairy and person is a gift to the world. 

WHY IS THIS MESSAGE IMPORTANT TO US?

Our show's encouragement of individuality, self-love, and acceptance of others is the exact message we would have loved to have had embedded in ourselves and in those around us as children. As two slightly quirky kids with a strong passion for performing, we both had to learn how to deal with criticism from our peers, and self-doubt at a very early age. As kids, we both felt as though we could never really be ourselves or shine without becoming outcasts. We would love to see how strong the next generation of children could become if they felt total freedom to shine and be themselves, and allowed others that same freedom without any shaming or criticism.

OUR HISTORY 

Jasmine: Brendon and I met back in high school and we just hit it off straight away. His larger than life personality was infectious and he could always make me laugh. As students, we were both passionate about music, theatre, and dance, and both went on to pursue careers as performers. We each went on to have many successes and many failures. As a way of supporting ourselves through the unpredictable nature of the performing arts industry, we both took on jobs such as presenters, trivia hosts, and children's entertainers. 

After many years of entertaining at birthday parties, I really fell in love with performing for children and developed a deep yearning to create my own kid's music and stage show. Once my music was in the process of being recorded, I decided I wanted to find a male fairy to perform alongside me and help me to transform my songs into a spectacular and hilarious stage show that would be loved by girls and boys. When Brendon and I bumped into each other earlier this year and reconnected after many years, I knew he was perfect for that role.

PERFORMANCE DETAILS

The Fairy Wonderland Show will be playing on the 14th and 15th of September at 1 pm (60-minute show) at The Wonderland Spiegeltent in Federation Square. Tickets go on sale on the 10th of August and can be purchased through the Melbourne Fringe website.
