Is there a greater significance to ‘being’?

Or do they as ‘beings’ just simply exist?

Hi, 

my name is Kayla Douglas, the choreographer of A Study of Being. Together alongside an immensely talented team of young independent artists I will be presenting my first self-produced contemporary dance work at the 2019 Melbourne Fringe Festival. The festival is right around the corner now and we are so excited to be able to finally share this work with audiences we just need a bit of support to get it to these final stages!

SO WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT? 

The messiness of being human is revealed, through contrasting comparisons, against the clinical backdrop of a laboratory like environment. Arising from the desire to understand the meaning of this existence, the work takes the ‘human being’ and places it under a microscope to be examined. The test subjects are deconstructed, tested, analysed and reassembled again in order to try to better understand their purpose and significance.

Through a feat of human movement the subjects swarm together in dynamic unison and draw apart in striking individuality. The work shifts from being physically high impact to incredibly heartfelt as they tap into the authentic intricacies and complexities of the human condition.

WHAT YOUR DONATIONS GO TOWARDS

The $4000 target will be used to help cover the following expenses:

Venue Hire: $2586

Studio Rehearsal Hire: $600

Lighting and Set Design: $950

Marketing and Publicity: $500

Overhead Fees: $600

Total Expenses: $5236

Along side our $4000 target our projected ticket sales work out to $1630

As an emerging artist this project has been completely funded by myself whilst my dedicated artistic team have been giving their valuable time for free. I am not expecting to make a profit, I am just hoping to break even, but more importantly I want to be able to pay my collaborators. For the past few months they have been rehearsing twice a week, giving up other opportunities and paid work to be there. Each of them has brought something unique into the studio and without them this project would not exist. With the help of your donations covering cost of production any further money made from ticket sales can go towards paying them.
